STAGES OF CALL (WHEN NO ONE RESPONDS)

  • STAGE1:

  • FIRST STAGE CALLS GOES TO THE CONTROL YOU ARE IN. AT THIS STAGE AC EXPECTS THE CONTROL TO RESPOND AND GIVE CLEARANCE TO CLIMB/ DESCEND OR DEVIATE RT OR LT & THEN REGAIN TRACK.
  • IF CONTROLLER DOES NOT RESPOND, AIRCRAFT WILL DEVIATE ON ITS OWN. HOWEVER ON ATS ROUTE AC CANNOT CHANGE FL ON ITS OWN BUT CAN DEVIATE OR LEAVE ATS ROUTE ANY TIME ON ITS OWN FOLLOWING A PROCEDURE.
  • DEVIATION CAN BE DONE ANYTIME BUT REJOIN CAN BE DONE ONLY AT REPORTING POINTS.
  • THIS IS TO BE DONE ONLY AFTER FIRST ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO THE CONTROLLER.
  • FIRST OPTION IS TO DEVIATE TO THE RIGHT, IF THE WEATHER IS EXTENDING TO THE RIGHT THEN DEVIATE LEFT.
  • “NAGPUR CONTROL INDAIR 430, POSITION 30 nm IB NNP, FL 310, TS AHEAD REQUEST FL 350”
  • STAGE 2:

  • AFTER MAKING THE FIRST STAGE ATTEMPT IF CONTROLLER DOES NOT RESPOND. SECOND STAGE CALL GOES TO ALL AIRCRAFT IN THE VICINITY.
  • CALL SHALL END WITH “ALL EXTERNAL LIGHTS SWITCHED ON, KEEP LOOK OUT.”
  • AT THIS STAGE IF DEVIATING RIGHT CLIMB BY 300 FT, IF DEVIATING RIGHT THEN DESCEND BY 300 FT (IN RVSM LEVELS)
  • AT THIS STAGE THE AC EXPECTS THAT SOME OTHER AC IN VISCINITY WILL HEAR THE CALL AND RESPOND.
  • “ALL AIRCRAFT ALL AIRCRAFT ALL AIRCRAFT IN VISCINITY OF NAGPUR INDAIR 430 AIRBUS, POSITION 30 nm IB NNP, FL 310, RADIAL 300, DEVIATING RIGHT BY 30O DUE TS AHEAD, CLIMBING FL 313, ALL EXTERNAL LIGHTS SWITCHED ON, KEEP LOOK OUT”

  • STAGE 3:

  • IF NO AC RESPONDS AFTER SECOND STAGE CALL THEN CHANGE OVER TO 121.5 AND MAKE THE THIRD ATTEMPT WHICH WILL BE A PAN PAN CALL ON 121.5.
  • ONCE CLEAR OF WEATHER REGAIN TRACK TOWARDS THE NEXT REPORTING POINT ON THE ROUTE.
  • QUES PAPER WILL GIVE A CLUE AS TO WHICH STAGE YOU ARE IN, AS PER THAT MAKE THE CALL. Eg..YOU CALL CONTROLLER DOES NOT RESPOND..THAT MEANS FIRST STAGE CALL HAS ALREADY GONE IN SO HAVE TO MAKE SECOND STAGE CALL.
  • IF IT SAYS NO STATION RESPONDS, IT MEANS THAT SECOND STAGE CALL HAS ALSO GONE, SO NOW MAKE THE THIRD STAGE CALL.
  • IN CASE IT SAYS CHANNEL HEAVILY OCCUPIED THEN IT WILL BE FIRST STAGE CALL BUT PAN PAN .
  • “PAN PAN X 3, ALL AIRCRAFT IN VISCINITY OF NAGPUR, INDAIR 430 AIRBUS ON 121.5, POSITION 30 nm IB NNP, RADIAL 300, FL 310, DEVIATING RIGHT BY 30O DUE TS AHEAD, CLIMBING TO FL 313, ALL EXTERNAL LIGHTS SWITCHED ON, KEEP LOOK OUT”

  • FIRST LIBERTY WAS TAKEN TO DEVIATE ON ITS OWN BUT IF THE AC HAS TO DESCEND ON ITS OWN THE IT HAS TO LEAVE THE ATS ROUTE
  • TO ACHIEVE THIS AC HAS TO TURN RIGHT BY 900 GO OUT BY 15 nm (IN INDIA) THEN DESCEND. SO THE CALL HAS TO SPECIFY THIS ACTION.
  • WHENEVER YOU FIND TURBULENCE OR IN ANY CASE WHERE THE AC CANNOT MAINTAIN RVSM THEN OPT FOR DESCEND BELOW RVSM (< FL 290).
  • “NAGPUR CONTROL INDAIR 430, POSITION 30 NM IB NNP, RADIAL 300, 0500, FL 310, UNABLE RVSM DUE TURBULENCE, REQ DESCEND FL 270”
